CAREER US ARMY FATHER,

My Hero, My Mentor, A Diplomat, Orphaned Young.

While serving our country, deployed, I spent most of my childhood without him. For his family, he made the transitions of him having to leave and come back home as seamless as possible. I can still feel how his fatigues felt to my touch as a child. That was our military life. Bless your heart dad ♥

Douglas MacArthur

He and Audie Murphy were together in Texarkana with their sisters falsifying their ages, to sign them up for the army. As a boy he always wanted to serve his country and ride horses. He was headed to West Point and WW II changed the course of those plans. His sleeve had six straight ground level hash marks, one each for a year of combat at age 27. This was before he met and married his bride, my mom in 1949. Their first car was a new baby blue 1953 chevy.

WW II North Africa (November 1942), Italy (September 1943)

Normandy (D-D Invasion June 6, 1944)

Pictures of Italy and France.. In Italy, he said a woman was putting rats in the well to poison the water.

(World War II campaigns fought by the 3rd Infantry Division: Tunisia, Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Anzio, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Ardennes-Alsace, Rhineland and Central Europe.)

Korean War, dad was deployed/sent into the beginning of the Korean War. He left behind his young wife and their first baby of only a few months, 1950. Mom read in a Seattle newspaper that his company was captured. Dad had made his way to Seoul and sent a telegram to her that he was okay. He wrote her letters. My aunt had a beautiful letter from him published in the local, Enumclaw Herald.

Vietnam War, dad is Vietnam Era, his duty assignment wasn't in country.

Fritz Denzer Dad's Army buddy three timer.

My dad earned his lower 3rd stripe while in Korea becoming a Master Sergeant. When he returned to the states our US government said they could not afford to give him the pay raise and took it away. He was not alone in these turnabouts.

His 20 year Army career took him all over the world to many places. I remember being five and my dad sent beautiful gifts like silk pajamas for my mom and I, silk fabric for grandma and brass figurines. He would rather do without and give a gift. My father held true to the Army Values and a personal creed. He was humble about his journey with the military, as to not draw attention to himself, showing respect for his brothers and sisters in arms.

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

He was the 7th child of 8 born to Henry and Annie "Laura" Simpson, a Methodist.

At age 1 and 1/2 years, on Thanksgiving Day in 1923, a horrific car/train accident claimed the life of his father Henry Simpson. Henry was not at fault. His father was only 37. His oldest brother William "Harold", age 11, was thrown from the vehicle and miraculously survived. His youngest brother James "Jimmy" was later born posthumously in April 1924. His father had co-owned the Hope Ice Company in Hope, Arkansas with his brothers (Pat Simpson). All who knew his father shared in this heartbreak.

This was a very close loving family of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins who had parental, brotherly and sisterly bonds, especially with the younger children to help raise them.

He adored his mama and she passed away when he was age 16. Her mama 'his granma Annie' had become blind but, along with his sister Evelyn they were strong mother figures.

The only tribute song played for my dad.

"Let There Be Peace On Earth"

Vince Gill

(feat. Jenny Gill)

[Vince:]

Let there be peace on earth

And let it begin with me

Let there be peace on earth

The peace that was meant to be

With God as our father

Brothers all are we

Let me walk with my brother

In perfect harmony

Let peace begin with me

Let this be the moment now

With every step I take

Let this be my solemn vow

To take each moment

And live each moment

In peace eternally

Let there be peace on earth

And let it begin with me

☆ July's Song ☆

America The Beautiful

Daddy you have a Beautiful

Heart and Soul ♥

Like always, I see you sitting

Across from me at the kitchen table

Reaching out to take my hand

Always, how thoughtful and kind

You would be to me and others.

As I was thinking and drifted away ...

My thoughts were of you and Charles.

It's actually indescribable.

Charles' perfect pitch ...

Yet Truly Breathtaking

Singing America The Beautiful.

Oh how he loved to see me ...

Getting tears in my eyes hearing him sing.

He knew when I was age 10 ...

I sang this song solo for you dad.

In an my grade school talent show.

We were so fortunate ...

To have you, my daddy, back at home.

You made me feel safe with your sounds of the wind blowing outside.

Bless Your Heart.

My dad loved the Seahawks, the Mariners and the Kentucky Derby. He was a good hearted devoted loving family man and always had a smile. It pained me to see him suffer from having his hands burned during wartime. I loved it that he shared his favorite country music with me, old and new. He was poetic, writing a lifetime of heartfelt poetry. He had good friends who dearly loved him. People liked him because they could trust him. A handyman of everything, fixing cars, carpentry and plumbing. My parents had property in the foothills of Mt. Rainier where we would enjoy camping and fishing. Yes, I was his fishing buddy. He taught me how to dig for worms and bait my own hook. I can still see you out back on your riding lawn mower. He liked giving mom hugs and helping in the kitchen. He was a proud papa spoiling his grand-babies, especially with hugs and love.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, 1 son 2 daughters, his pride and joy 3 grandsons, extended family and friends.
